Lhasa - Day Two

The next morning we were not to meet our guide and driver until the early afternoon which gave us a chance to go look around on our own. We spent some time giving Barkhor Street bazaar a much closer look then the previous day. If you look at my full gallery --> Tibet Photographs <-- of photographs from the trip you will see lots of photographs of people traveling the circle that is Barkhor Street bazaar. After doing that we made our way to this restaurant that had amazingly good Indian food. Sorry, but don’t recall the name. It did have nothing but tourists in it and our guide recommended it. It was upstairs not far from the plaza.

We met up with Tashi after lunch and made our way to another monastery that was an active school of sorts for monks. We did a quick tour of the monastery that seemed to be somewhat run down. Then we made our way to a large enclosed courtyard where monks were busy learning. The way they were learning was quite interesting. One monk would speak a number of phrases and then do a slap of the hands. I guess this was intended to help the memory process. It was quite interesting and very colorful to watch.

After completing this outing we headed out to find some water for the road. We found a place were we could buy a case of bottled water and carried it back to the hotel. Since we were pretty tired we decided to order room service. I can’t say it was all that great, but it was a lot better then some of the items we had during our trip. Shortly before the sun went down I went up to the roof to take some photographs and then shortly after that we were asleep and dreaming about what it would be like to travel even further off the grid then Lhasa.
